THE EURO BLUE CARBON DATABASE AT FIRST GLANCE

In April 2023, we invited the research community to contribute data for a comprehensive database of organic carbon stocks in marine sediments, i.e., blue carbon. This database will serve to map and quantify such stocks on a European scale for a better management of the seafloor. Here are some preliminary numbers to illustrate the amount of data achieved so far and which we are currently checking for quality:

We are still receiving data and adding data from existing databases and from the literature and we have started drafting an associated data paper. As so, stay tuned for updated news on the outcome.
